Meets — Track & Field

Heats & flights

QuickMeet builds heats and flights automatically from the seed values on your entries, shaped by the heat settings you choose — then gives you printable heat sheets for meet day.

How heats & flights are generated

When you generate, QuickMeet ranks the athletes in each event by their seed value — the times and marks from the Entries page — and distributes them into heats and flights according to your settings. Athletes with similar seeds are grouped so they compete together, and any entrant without a seed is placed after those who have one.

Seeds drive the ordering

Good seeds make good heats. Seeds auto-fill from an athlete's results in QuickMeet and can be edited by hand on the Entries page — update them before generating for the best result.

Heat settings

Two groups of settings control how heats come out.

Track Configuration (applies to the whole meet)

  • Track Lanes — choose a 6- or 8-lane track; this sets how many athletes fill a lane-based sprint heat.
  • Runners / Sprint Heat — the default number of runners per heat for sprints (400m and under).
  • Runners / Distance Heat — the default number per heat for distance races (over 400m), which can pack in more runners.

Per-event settings (override the defaults for one event)

  • Gender: Separate or Combined — run boys and girls in their own heats, or combine them into shared heats.
  • Per Heat (M) / Per Heat (F) — set a runners-per-heat count for that specific event by gender; leave it blank to use the Track Configuration default.
