WTF: Groups

Happy Friday Coaches!

XC seasons are off and running (see what I did there?), and many of you are already dipping into QuickMeet for various features.

This week’s WTF is focused on Groups and how they can be used to assign workouts and communicate with your athletes.

Groups are simply collections of athletes that can be organized around whatever criteria make sense for your team. By default, QuickMeet comes with groups geared toward track and field, but you can also create your own groups for things like Varsity and JV.

When you create a new group, you’ll give it a name and then choose which athletes should be included. Athletes can belong to multiple groups, so you can organize them in whatever way works best for your team.

The group builder also makes it quick and easy to find athletes with similar attributes. When track season rolls around, for example, you could find everyone who has run the 400m and add them to a group.

You can also create subgroups within a group. On our team, we have a large group of sprinters, so it makes sense to have a parent “Sprinters” group, with smaller groups underneath it to help organize athletes around different training goals.

Once you have your groups defined, you can assign workouts to specific groups or subgroups. You can also email specific groups, making it much faster and easier to communicate with the athletes who need a particular message.

If you have suggestions for features, or if something doesn’t work the way you expect, please feel free to reach out to me. I’ve been making a lot of behind-the-scenes tweaks recently, and I’d like to keep QuickMeet moving forward.

I recently released an app non-related to QuickMeet (Taco Tuesday - Recipe Manager). That experience has made me wonder if there is a need for QuickMeet to become an iOS app, along with the web version. If that's something you are interested in, please let me know.

Good luck to everyone who might be racing this weekend!
